Jurisdictions indicate the geographical limits or territories within which authority is exercised. When a citation is passed into law, the authority that issued the citation has the right and power to interpret and apply the law in that geographical district.
For example, each state is a jurisdiction, and the jurisdiction for U.S. federal citations is the federal jurisdiction. When “Federal” is selected, the software will search the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and United States Code Service (USCS) citations only.
Whenever a country is added in Versatile Retention, a corresponding jurisdiction is created.
