Business activities are general categories that describe the types of business in which your company engages; for example, “Manufacturing.” They should also be thought of as types of core operations performed within your company; for example, accounts receivables would fall under both the “Accounting” and “Tax” business activities under “Business - General.”
Determining your organization’s business activity or activities is the first step on the path to finding the relevant legal citations that determine which records your organization should retain and for how long.
Business activities are organized into a two-tier system. The broadest level identifies the industry or general activity. The next level is a more specific subcategory that further defines the business activity.
Each citation in the database is assigned one or more business activities.
